WAYS TO WEAR A SCARF

1. Have your scarf be the center of the outfit

If you’re looking to wear a scarf in an attention-grabbing way don’t wrap it around your neck instead let is fall in front of you and add a skinny belt. This way to wear a scarf is best with a larger scarf. You want the scarf to end just above your knee and be large enough to make a statement. In this cute fall outfit, I went with a black and white look and added a gray and white plaid scarf to complete the look.

2. Wear an oversized knit scarf to soften up a look

Putting together a city chic outfit is always fun. To soften it up add a slightly oversized knit scarf. Pair your favorite black leather moto jacket with a scarf in the same color family to keep the cool vibe. In this fall outfit, I wore a gray knit scarf with a moto jacket, skinny jeans and leopard print heels. I also made sure I matched the color of the scarf with a clothing piece in my outfit, in this case, it was the long sleeve shirt under the moto jacket.

3. Wear a bright white scarf in a black and white outfit

In a time when everyone is wearing fall seasonal colors stand out by wearing black and white. In this fall outfit, I used the scarf as my starting point. I wanted to create a stylish outfit that made this scarf shine. I matched the white scarf with a white blazer. If you’re going to try this make sure the whites match. Don’t wear a jacket that is brighter than your scarf. To create a cohesive, look match your whites. I then added black leggings, a black tank top, and black heels.

4. Use a plaid scarf as the finishing touch in a stylish seasonal outfit

Have you ever put together an outfit and thought something is missing. Well, try adding a scarf! In this stylish fall outfit that I wore for a Thanksgiving family dinner paired dark wash jeans with riding boots, mustard sweater, and gray plaid scarf. I made sure the gray matched something else in the outfit so the gray cuffs on the sweater are the coordinating touch.

5. A jersey scarf can complete an outfit

If subtle is your signature look, go for a smaller scarf in a dark color that will blend into the entire outfit. You can wear a scarf with a blazer! I wore this outfit while sightseeing in Florence so I wanted to look dressy but still be comfortable. To add dimension to this outfit, I completed the outfit with a black jersey scarf.

6. Wear a scarf to keep you warm but look stylish as well

You can wear a scarf for its original purpose, to keep you warm. I wore this stylish winter outfit while in Venice and it was freezing there. I wrapped the scarf around my neck twice to keep me warm. This plaid scarf is the lighter item in the outfit. I wanted to add some dimension to this look so instead of wearing a black scarf I went for something light instead. Keep this in mind when putting together your outfit.

When friends come over and I pour glasses of this tea, it always brings a surprise. The two might seem like an unlikely duo, but they shake hands like old friends.

We discovered this recipe while visiting a neighboring island and it was served as their “daily tea”. My kids adored it and I really like the fact that it was “appley” but it didn’t pack the same sugar as a glass of apple juice. In addition, the tea is herbal so no caffeine. I always love finding drinks like this that are perfect for hydrating my kids and aren’t sugar or caffeine packed.

This week I am going to surprise my daughter with some in her lunch box and then I will have some at dinner.

It is simple and sweet and cool. Enjoy!

Apple Mint Iced Tea Recipe

Ingredients

• 10 Peppermint Tea Bags
• 2 Cups of Apple Cider

Instructions

• Steep peppermint tea bags in 4 cups of hot water for 10 minutes.
• Add 2 cups cool water and 2 cups of apple juice or cider.
• Serve over ice and enjoy!

If you’ve seen pictures of those adorable Apple Roses making the rounds on Pinterest but felt too intimidated to give them a try, you’ll be amazed at how easy they are to make. Manuela of Cooking with Manuela shares her simple, straightforward recipe for preparing these delicious, diminutive desserts.

Manuela says: “There are many variations, all very similar. And all (or most!) very beautiful. So, the other day I got inspired, and looked up a bunch of recipes to try out these apple roses. There are several ways you can prepare them. You can make your own dough, or, like I did, use store bought frozen puff pastry. It’s much easier and a lot quicker!”

Manuela’s instructions include a step-by-step video that will convince you to make these tarts as soon as you can. While they’re simple enough to make on a weeknight, they’re impressive enough to serve at the end of a special meal. They’d be a welcome addition to your holiday dessert line-up this year; since they’re so easy to prepare and to serve, you’ll have much more time to relax and connect with family and friends.

The basics for my Fall wardrobe are a great vest that goes with everything, a cardi that I can wear in a flash, a warmer coat, long sleeve tops, leggings and skirts. Here are a few of my favorites:

This is the Bramwell Vest paired with the Abbott Top. It is perfection and I have been layering this vest almost daily. Yesterday, it got really blustery and I threw my down coat on top of the whole collection! The details on this combination just have me swooning: the cuffs, the shoulder details, the vest’s overall style.
This is comfort. I was kicking back, chatting with a friend on FaceTime and I thought “This is a pretty awesome combo for comfort right here” and I snapped a pic. When I am not wearing the Bramwell vest, I have this sweet sweater on.

After sharing this photo on Facebook, a friend from high school sent me a note that she ordered a Bethel Cardi for herself and today she sent me a note saying she just received it in the mail and it is just as comfy and soft as I said! See? I’m not a liar. The vest and this cardi will become long-time staples in your closet because Aventura lasts.

This is not from this year, but from last year and it is still a favorite. Yes, this little darling has been in the wash multiple times and keeps on ticking. The style closest to this is the Simone Vest – I LOVE the Biking Red and the Smoke Pine. Hmmmm. My birthday IS coming up.

Aventura has an incredible collection of tops. I have already mentioned my love for the Abbott, but I cannot forget the Larkin which I just wore yesterday to a conference (under the Bramwell. You want a photo? Well, it was blowing like the devil and I didn’t stay outside very long and my curls went a little cray cray, so no photo, sorry!).

Aren’t those little butterfly details on the top adorable? Again, comfort although these aren’t quite my style, they look really comfy and like they are built to last.

 These are ridiculously cute. I would LOVE to slip these on. I would love to wear these with tights during all of the cooler seasons and slide them on with a pair of jeans and an oversized sweater on a windy, rainy day.

— but then I see THESE! If I were the type of person to overuse exclamation points, these would  be the shoes that I would do that for. My only reservation is that they have received really mixed reviews. The negatives commented that the leather was rigid, but in my mind, that is an easy fix.

 I had to bring you down the rabbit hole with me. Clarks are always high on my list because they last forever and they are comfortable straight out of the box. The Ledella York comes in FIVE different color combos and I honestly love each and every one. Some combos would be great year round and others are more fitting for winter and fall. Another great rainy day clog and we love the suede detail on the heel. Perfect with pants!

Dansko Martina

If we were playing a game of word association and you said, “clog”, I would respond, “Dansko”.  These are long time favorites. As a teacher, I would buy a new pair (or two) every year. The Martina is so sweet with it’s Mary Jane style. I truly adore this one.

A Dansko mule with FLAIR and this color is just beautiful. These come in four different colors to make the decision a little bit more difficult. The details on this mule are really fun and kick it up a bit.

Frye Emily Clog

These are like a fine wine. I mean REALLY. These are perfect for that weekend away and they are just STRAIGHT UP GORGEOUS. Frye’s are always a good investment for your wardrobe and these are just works of art. Hmmmmm. Does anyone want to get me a birthday present? Heh heh.

Calou Stockholm Astrid

Ok, first a confession. The first time I saw the name of this company, I read “Caillou”. Dear lord that whiney child has infiltrated the shoe market! Oh, wait. Relief. CALOU. Um hm. I love these on SO many levels. These could be worn with pants or a skirt / dress. My only concern is with the staples around the edge, however, that might be entirely unwarranted. This red is AMAZING and these shoes come in the most incredible color pallet. Make sure you check them out in blue.

Calou Stockholm Lisa

I love the soft look of the Lisa. Also, these are wooden soles which take a little getting used to, but I have always loved my wooden clogs the best. With the rubber pad and the support of the wood, these will be hard to say no to.

Dansko Marcelle

Yes, we are back to Danskos. These are the Mary Jane version of the classic Dansko style and if you work on your feet, these will make a world of difference for you. They last forever and give you unending support.

Sorel Addington Mule

That rugged Sorel feeling with a splash of class. I want these — and I think they want me, too.

Ugg Kassi

Once upon a time, I would have ADORED these, but now that I am HOT all of the time, my feet would revolt. Look at that soft, woolen goodness inside and they look pretty snazzy, too. It’s like wearing your slippers around all day and no one is the wiser. Nice play, UGG.

Free People Amber Orchard

These are just bad a$$. I would be wearing these if I lived in a warmer climate, so friends who live in warmer climates, I am talking to you. Buy these bad boys and send me pictures.

Jambu Balsa

I really like Jambu. Their shoes are always comfy and classy. These feel so practical. I see these and think “comfort” and “classy”, but then those Frye’s are knockin’ on my door.

My husband has a pair of Birks from when we first met. The sun comes out and so do his Birks. I just KNOW these will be so comfortable with that cork heel and I have to say, I am impressed with the workmanship on these. That chain detail is really awesome. Hmmmm.

Bella Vita Savona

Hey city girls, I put these in there for you. These are slick and beautiful. I would own these in a heartbeat if I lived in the city. Plus, I would tell everyone they were Bella Vita Savona’s because say that out loud just once. See what I mean?

Spring Step Chino

This brand is new to me. Are you familiar with them? They have a completely whimsical style that is perfect for island living and they come in a vast array of colors. The workmanship on these is truly impressive and I am guessing by the looks of that cushy instep that these are like walking on clouds. If you are familiar with them, I would love to hear more.

El Naturalista Colibri NF60

I know what you are thinking. “Val, those aren’t clogs or mules!” I know, I know. I also said these were my 20 picks for Fall and I ended up with 22. I like shoes, ok? I really love MaryJanes and I am always looking for a pair to replace my long lost favorite pair from my college days (they were by NineWest, if you were wondering). These are SO cool. They have a hint of Doc Marten-ness to them but they are truly beautiful. Well, a girl can dream, right?
