Avalanche Dogs: From Lifesavers to Ambassadors, These Dogs Have What It Takes by Brave Ski Mom

What does it take to be both a lifesaver and an ambassador for some of North America’s best ski resorts? Well, first, it helps if to have 4 legs and a very keen nose. Athleticism and agility are very important, as is a fondness for cold temperatures and inclement weather. Being able to balance work with play and switch quickly from one to another is also a key trait. Most importantly, you need to be a dog.

Avalanche dogs are important members of the safety team at almost all ski resorts. Not only do they help save lives and recover people after accidents, but they are also some of the most popular members of the ski patrol, making friends wherever they go.
