Welcome Sharalyn to Bonbon Break

BonBon Break

What do you get when you take two busy moms and a new online magazine?  A lot of fun and a lot of work. So much work that we were starting to feel a bit crazed. Then a dear friend of Val’s said she was itching to add a little more craziness to her life.

We are thrilled to introduce you to the third member of our Bonbon Break team, Marketing Director, Sharlyn Lehman.

Sharalyn and her sweet girl

This week kicks off our month of gratitude and the start of the Holiday Season.  Some of us already may have spent a lot of time thinking about our loved ones and creating or buying their presents.  But most of us are just beginning.  Recently, I learned that when I click and shop through the advertisement buttons on my favorite blog or e-magazine, 8-10% of the proceeds are kicked back to them. Yay!  This assists in operation costs, the promotion of content, and the compensation of those behind the scenes.

Bonbon Break is working hard to post advertisements of brands you know and love as well as shops that carry craft and textile supplies that will aid in your holiday creations.  If you think of a brand or shop you’d like to see advertised on Bonbon Break, please leave a comment at the bottom of this page.  We will do our best to post their ad and search for coupons and promotions.  Also, Bonbon Break is creating a wonderful gift closet designed to assist you in your search for the perfect gift.  It will launch next week.  With this in mind, use us and shop through us this Holiday Season.

Bonbon Break is on an upward trend because of you, our readers and contributors!   The content and prose of our contributors brings our readers back again and again.   Mamas like me, are looking for their weekly Bonbons, their little bites of intellectual heaven, connection, and validation.  Many thanks to those who make Bonbon Break possible!

Here are a few resources that I know, use, and love on a regular basis.

Other than Flourarrangements, a blog I know and LOVE, this is my “go to” cookbook.  Recently, I took a batch of brownies to a party and EVERYONE wanted the recipe.  A few months ago, I threw a dinner party and served chicken potpie.  People went crazy.  I love this book so much!  I gave The Foster’s Market Cookbook as a birthday present to each of my friends this past year and will probably give it to my sister this Christmas.  Shhh, don’t tell.

I just asked you to share the brands and shops you know and love.  Well, this is one of mine.  I started quilting about 10 years ago.  After my daughter turned 2, I knew my time in quilt shops was limited (unless you go to Stash Quilt Shop in Seattle.  The owner, Stephanie, has a year old son.  She gets it.)  At the time, I lived in Washington DC, not Seattle, so I began to do a lot of fabric shopping online.  As a result, fabric turned into a dangerous obsession and shopping online became comfortable and proved a very useful skill.  A year later, I moved to a little island off the coast of Washington State, and guess what, we have NO fabric shop.  So, when I want fabric, I go to fabric.com, shop and save.

Do you ever have those days that make you want to tear out your hair and the term “just breathe” runs through your head but you cannot seem to make yourself do it?  Or if you do, “just breathe,” the calm lasts for about 5 seconds and then you want to scream.  I have those days – they started in college when I studied for finals, continued through business school, and of course, occur regularly in motherhood.

These days, I sometimes grab a glass of wine and head to the hot tub.  Before I turned 21, I found a wonderful way to deal with stress: a shower with my favorite aromatherapy, a sensational body wash or shampoo.

I am a eucalyptus freak, so my aroma of choice is eucalyptus, tea tree, or a mix.  Over the years, I found three products that relieve all stress and leave me feeling calm, cool, and collected.  Before I wash my hair or my body, I squeeze some in my hands, rub them together, and breathe deeply.  Ahhhhh.  If scent does for you what it does for me, try it.  And, if you do not share in my eucalyptus obsession, try lavender or pine.  I hear they work wonders too.

Sharalyn Lehman, marketing director, is a farm mom of two who traded the world of high tech health care for turkeys, chickens, sunflowers and asparagus shoots.  She is a long time quilter and delights in making clothes and costumes for kids and friends.  She has never met a craft she did not like or a pullet she could pass up.
