Weekly bites – Motherhood is Dangerous Business

Motherhood is Dangerous Business by Val CurtisI gave in this week. I completely caved.

I watched a quick little movie of my son from when he was three, my daughter’s current age. He’s almost seven. Three is hard, but it flies by…and then they are seven.

So I gave in. I gave up my time for writing this letter and gave it to my kids…and guess what happened. I sprained both of my hands. Both.

While frolicking through the tidepool’s jagged rockscape, my 3 year old yelled, “Mommy, HELP!” Those survival / protection instincts run deep. I ran and learned she was just afraid of the anemones. Pffft. Then she proceeded to pull my sleeve and I went from standing to horizontal in about half a second.

The only thing that came between my face and those pointy edges was my hands. As a result, I spent Mother’s Day sitting on the couch, icing my paws and watching a non-stop stream of my favorite shows with my earbuds popped in for privacy…and although my hands hurt, it was a GREAT day.

Motherhood is crazy that way. Injuries, teeth cleaning sessions and doctor’s appointments provide a much needed respite.

**How to you get a break?**

Hope you find time for yourself without injuries and appointments,

Val
