Valentines Day Fun for Kids

Jessica Ferrara

For the first few years of our married life, my husband and I lived close to family. Like, really close. Sometimes in the same house even. That all changed in the last couple of years and we’ve found that keeping up with grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. can be a bit of a challenge.

Thank goodness this is the age of the smartphone. We are able to keep in so much closer contact that way than we would through traditional communications. We shoot photos back and forth, send updates about doctor visits and even share frustrations all through our smartphones. It’s pretty awesome if you think about it.

Last summer, we discovered an app that is REALLY fun to play with and produces short video clips that grandparents (and everyone, really) absolutely love. It’s called One Day and is available on both iPhone and Android. This FREE app is so fun to play with that you’ll want to make videos with your kids all day long.

The process is so simple. The app provides questions, you shoot video clips and then they are all put together in a montage complete with captions. I mean, really, it couldn’t be any simpler. You don’t even need to think of what to say which, for me, is always the hardest part.

Over time, the app has grown to include more and more themes. Right now, there are several Valentine’s Day themes to choose from. It’s a lot of fun to have the prompts to use with the kids – especially 4-year-old Luke who knows a lot less about Valentine’s Day than we first realized.

I did these videos using the Valentine’s Day themes. For my kindergartener, I chose the teacher themed video. It came out so cute – I’m definitely planning to share it with her. I kept it more general for Luke and got some funny answers. Make sure you watch it all the way through because the Cupid question at the end is the BEST.

When One Day approached us to share their app with our readers, we knew it was a GO since we are such huge fans. Have you tried the One Day app? We’d love to see the videos you’re sharing on social media. Tag us in them (#BonBonBreak) so we don’t miss them!

Jessica (you can call her Jess, her friends do) is a coffee lover, craft supply hoarder and working mother of two wrestling-obsessed little men – ages 4 and 6. She gave up trying to find balance in life long ago and instead focuses on being present, which seems to work for her. Jess writes about food, crafts, blogging and pretty much anything else that comes to mind on her personal blog, Chaos & Love. In her free time (ha!), Jess enjoys spending time with her family at home in sunny Southern California and dreaming of the day when she can once again take naps at will.
