BonBon Break

A Word from Bonbon Break’s Editors

Once upon a time I was a middle school science teacher and gave presentations to students, colleagues, parents, community members, Board members, administrators, state legislators and professors. They were given with confidence and self-assuredness.

But this baby of a project is different.

Before, I was representing students and teachers; now, I am representing moms and with that comes a new sense of responsibility and pride…and to be honest, a bit of a twist in my stomach.

There are so many facets to being a mom that we often lose sight of who we are and who we want our children to see us as besides just being “mom”. Although it is the title I wear with the most pride, it is the most difficult I have held.

Tears, smiles, frustration, joy, sleeplessness, elation, depression, fulfillment, depletion. Motherhood bears it all. Sometimes we bear it all within a day, an hour or a minute and when it all comes down on us, we need a break.

A place to escape with women who get it.

I am not talking about the childless friend who empathizes with your child’s 9-day flu by responding, “I know, my dog ate something weird last week and threw up all day!”

You need to hear the voices of women who have walked the walk and felt the weight of the world on their shoulders and on their hip.

These are the women who suffer from momnesia. Four days of illness can be washed away from our memories by an afternoon of blowing dandelions in the grass or by gentle little hands grabbing for ours.

Take a break. You deserve one.

Whether you are a working mom, a work from home mom, a stay at home mom, we are all on the same team.

Together we can take a break while listening to one another’s voices. Welcome and thank you for stopping by!

Have you ever found yourself yelling at your spouse,“I have not been lounging around all day eating bonbons,” in an attempt to get them to understand that although they may have left the house with a sink full of dishes, only to return home to find a sink full of dishes, it’s not the same sink full of dishes; it’s the fifth!

Has your heart ever broken in a million pieces because your child cried at being left at school or daycare?

Is being covered in vomit just another day at the “office?”

Do you stare as your child is sleeping and wonder how you ever got so lucky to have this person in your life?

Are you a different person from the one you were before the test ever turned pink?

If you have answered yes to these questions then welcome, this magazine was created for you.

My life did not change one bit the day I became a mother, I just got a completely different one.

I love my life as a mom, but it’s not my only role in life. I’m also a wife, daughter, sister, friend, neighbor, writer, blogger, gardener, reader and the list continues. I wanted a place to come and regroup that addressed all the roles in my life, and that’s how Bonbon Break came about.

Val and I wanted to create a place that we would want to visit after a day of being all things to all people. A place where we could laugh, cry, think  and maybe even get a new idea for dinner.

So come on in, explore our new home, read some great articles from some great women and take a Bonbon Break!
