Setting The Best Example I Can…

setting the best example I can

After 10 years of severe, mobility-limiting chronic pain, I found some relief and began running again a little over 2 years ago. In typical fashion, I did too much too fast. Things never felt “right,” but I soldiered on. I was loving the movement, and the pain was far less than it had been. Running gives me peace. It is a tool not just for physical fitness but also for mental health, for reconnecting with the outdoors and with my athletic, pre-kids self. It’s hard to not do something that feels so good in so many ways…even if it’s not feeling entirely good in all ways. I’ve always counseled others to stop running and allow their bodies to heal – really heal – when they are hurt. Here’s where I finally follow my own best advice. A postscript: I’ve subsequently received a medical diagnosis and am about to begin treatment for what is causing my pain.
