A Gaper is…What? A Skier’s Lexicon

skier's lexicon skiing terminology

Do you know what a “gaper” is? How about “stease” or “stoke” or even “gaper gap?” Are your kids “groms”?

Every sport has specialized vocabulary, short-hand phrases, abbreviations and slang. If it’s not your sport, you may not understand the language (or you may just find it annoying).

Since my sport is skiing, I’ve picked up plenty of slang over the years. Some is fun, some is silly and some I still don’t understand.

So, just for fun (and to because understanding negates annoyance), I’ve put together definitions of some of my favorite ski slang. Please add your favorite words to this list!

Thanks!
