Wondering how to make the very best grape leaves?  My 14-letter last name should be a good hint that you are on the right track.    If you have ever thought about making Grape Leaves  (also known as stuffed grape leaves or dolmades) then this is the recipe for you.  It takes you through the process step-by-step, including pictures and a video for how to roll the grape leaves.

Before I get into the recipe, I have a hilarious story to share with you.

Have you ever seen the movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”?  If you have, you’ll recall a scene in the movie where the boyfriend says he’s vegetarian and the entire family stops in their tracks for a moment, then the Thea (Thea is Greek for Aunt) looks at him, pauses for a moment, and then smiles and says “That’s ok, I’ll make lamb”.   That scene is funny because it is true.

I had the priceless opportunity of living what could have been the sequel , let’s call it My Big Fat Greek Easter for fun.   My sister-in-law declined the lamb shank (because she is a vegetarian) and after a stunned pause from the host, was offered grape leaves instead.  What were they stuffed with you ask?  Lamb and rice.   I did everything in my power not to belly laugh myself into tears when I got to witness that.

So in honor of my sister-in-law, here is my recipe for Vegetarian Stuffed Grape Leaves.
