“He climbed on the coffee table…”

Boy, kids love to tattle, don’t they? These “well-meaning” little police officers can drive us a little nuts. Some kids will tell on anybody for anything! I know, I was one of those kids until my parents helped me see how it was not actually helping much of anything.

Why do kids tattle?

There are lots of reasons, like

  • feeling strongly that rules are meant to be followed!
  • it’s fun to see someone else get in trouble for a change.
  • because that person just tattled on me!
  • to earn praise or thanks from the adult.
  • just ’cause…

Is it always tattling?

No! Sometimes kids need to tell an adult what’s going on. Tune in for a couple of minutes to this video, and you’ll be able to explain the difference to your kids clearly, and promote telling while discouraging tattling!
