It sounds like you handled it all beautifully! I learned Santa wasn’t real when a student teacher in 4th grade said to the whole class, “So you all know Santa isn’t real…” Um, what?! My mom confirmed the truth but also told me that every year there is something in our stockings that she didn’t put there, which let me hold out hope a little longer, until I eventually figured out for myself that wasn’t real either. I also remember being devastated when my younger siblings stopped believing and so my parents put gifts from Santa under the tree BEFORE Christmas. Even though we didn’t believe anymore, that tradition of having gifts from Santa under the tree Christmas morning was still special and cherished – holding onto that bit of childhood! Even though your daughter knows the “truth” now, I bet she will still appreciate the tradition and maybe helping to make the magic for her little brother. Happy holidays!

Aww! Your daughter sounds like a gem!
Something my mom told us kids, even when we “knew”, was “Santa won’t come if you don’t believe in him”. So, even when we knew, we kept up the charade, and still had the anticipation of surprises that didn’t arrive under the tree until late Christmas Eve.

🙂 So beautiful and a great way to explain that there is more “magic” to life then just Santa.
My 9 year old son (damn you 4th grade!!} is done believing in Santa… he is in the “GATE” class at his school and his classmates are all too “smart” to believe in that. Sad. He doesn’t seem too disappointed. He is in fact excited about making it special for my 7 year old girl. She seems on the brink herself. ugh.

My daughter doesn’t even know who Santa is yet, and I’m already dreading this day. But you handled it so well. I love that you told Emma about all of the things to come that will give her even more butterflies that good ‘ole St. Nick.
