Thank God Clark is okay. And the better thing is that he overcame his (and your family’s) trauma by having some private swimming lessons. Yes, swimming is an important skill in life. A water accident shouldn’t be a reason to avoid water. Instead, this should be a lesson. I know that it’s not easy – I couldn’t imagine how I would feel if this happened to my son.

They had a lifeguard, parents were around, but somehow everyone missed it. With very young ones, ages 1-4, they need to be supervised within arms reach at all times. If they slip away, fall in and hit their head, there is no thrashing. They just go under and no one sees them until it's too late. Adults and should learn to look out for this, too. Kids should know to point it out and call for help to the nearest adult… most kids instinctively look for their mom or dad, to tell them first.
