Our families deserve the same rights and it seems that this time is here! My partner and I have been together for 28 years, have been married in Canada, adopted a son (you might want to read our adoption story in The Family Room right now), own our home, pay taxes and have jobs and we are getting married in April. We are a family that counts and will not impact anyone else’s marriage. Thank you for this piece. Your photo is beautiful and it is clear that you had a room full of people that love you and support you! Blessings to you and yours!

There are so many things a married straight couple takes for granted, like being able to be at our spouses side in the hospital in case of an accident, regardless of what state we are in. Or knowing that in case of our own death our children will be left in the care of their other parent without question or legal fight. You point out so beautifully in your piece that a married couple that is gay has to worry about such things simply because our Federal laws don’t recognize their unions. Thank you for sharing your story and site!
