the funny thing is that today almost everybody knows that those women in magazines and tv are all re-touched, and still, despite the knowledge we want to look like them… the age brings wrinkles and grey hair, motherhood brings stretch marks and there isn’t a cream or a pill out there to prevent them or make them disappear. I hope that stage of a skinny-anorexic-fake tanned-big boobs-small brain vision of a perfect women passes soon, and we all put in behind us!!!

I have tried to challenge this view with my own project all be it in a more ‘adult’ context but the messages I have had from woman telling me that my work has made them feel happier about their own bodies or even more wonderful have been the messages from woman saying I have inspired them to take their own images.

Beauty is not perfection, beauty is much deeper and real then that and something that the mass media has done a great deal of damage too. It has stripped away people and represented them with a formulaic image of a woman. You should be very proud that you have done something amazing to redress that message!

Amy, thank you for your kind words! yes, I do hope my kids will cherish those pictures someday!
The only advice I have for all the women out there who are afraid, and as you – discouraged, I say: “just do it”, and if you don’t like it, repeat it, over and over again until you like it. You have no ideas how many pictures I take sometimes just to pick THE ONE.

I know no other way of saying this but simply ‘thank you’. I hate having my picture taken. Whenever I see pictures of myself, I think, that can’t possibly be what I look like and then I am left feeling discouraged. The pictures you took of yourself are beautiful moments of time captured that your kids will one day look back on and remember with love, who you were. I am inspired to take on your challenge. I’m off to check out your blog as well.

thank you, Christina!!! and I’ll tell you something: I used to get it all wrong all the time, and at that time I had a film camera so it costed me a lot of money… I think that’s why I learned pretty quick how to get it right. you just need to make the first step and simply change the settings, it all seems to be very complicated but, believe me, it is not! so, I wish you patience with learning the manual mode in 2013!!!

Thanks for sharing here on BonBon Break and on your own blog. Your photos are inspiring as are your words. My hubby bought me a Nikon D90 a number of years ago. It is still set on auto. This year I hope to find a class, a youtube video, something that will encourage me to move the little dial(s) off auto and let go of all my fears of getting it wrong. (yes that is metaphoric too).
Wishing you and your family the best of 2013.
