I enjoyed reading about how you celebrate – I’m always on the lookout for other families who do, as it’s a “new-to-my-family” holiday as well. 🙂 One Kwanzaa craft for you is to make your own kinara! Sound daunting, but most craft stores have wooden cups for candle stick holders. The first year I made our kinara with those wooden components and then I painted it black, red, and green. It’s nice to be able to take one of the Kwanzaa values and add to the symbolism. 🙂

I’ve never heard of the Feast of the 7 Fishes – you should write about that! 🙂 It is great to know other moms add to their traditions as adults, too. There is so much in the world to learn about and embrace!

Thanks, Lisa! I agree – it is about the spirit and tradition and intention, not doing it a “certain way.” Happy holidays to you, too!

I think learning about our heritage through the holidays is so special. My family’s ancestors are from Italy yet we never did anything connected to the traditional Feast of the 7 Fishes. It wasn’t until my sisters and I grew up and out in the world did we even know about it. I love the principals of Kwanza and I love how you have incorporated them into your family. Thank you for sharing this with our readers.

It sounds like you have developed wonderful traditions with your sons. It doesn’t matter that your knowledge came from the internet or that your candles were made out of construction paper, you are sharing your love and values and traditions and helping to shape wonderful memories for your children. I so admire your enthusiasm and energy!!! Lots of happiness to you and your’s this holiday season!
Lisa
