I did add more and more alcohol to the parties as the years went on, and by the time they were 10 I said “NO Parties except for the big ones: 13, 16, 18.” I feel silly that it took me that long to say to hell with it all. Entirely too much effort! Blech.

I finally just started saying YES to whatever he asked for and figured he'd forget by the day. And if not, presents are always a good way to end the "But I wanted ELMO" tantrums.

I have learned to wait until that week before to really make plans final. I send out the invites a bit earlier, but that way I can change the theme if need be. Of course, then I am stressed trying to do it all last minute…

Stopping in from SITS.

My daughter’s first b’day I did it all. 2nd birthday, at home but catered. 3rd, restaurant. Next one, maybe I’ll grace her with my presence. I’ve so far avoided kids’ parties though her daycare does do cupcakes and party favors. I’m very tempted to buy Chinese finger traps next time. Not sure if this will make me parent friends or enemies though.

The toddler birthday strikes me as the perfect thing to outsource. Like maybe to India.

I’m a firm believer in just throwing money at the problem. I’m not crafty so I just throw money at someone who is to make a great birthday for my kids.
