Knowing how much I have progressed from shy & awkward to more outgoing (and still often awkward) gives me hope when I see my kids acting so shy. Tonight my 6 & 8 year olds are in a school play, that they volunteered to be in (ok I had to really nudge the 8yo), they have no speaking parts, but still, they are going on stage. My husband and I cannot believe it and could not be more proud of them for pushing themselves outside of their comfort zone. The more they get used to it, the easier it becomes. I know from experience! Thanks again for your comment.

I’m an extrovert. I will talk to anyone–Anyone, Anywhere, about Anything. My kids have always said that I don’t have strangers, just friends I haven’t met yet.

My husband and son are both introverts. Capital “I” Introverts. My hubby is like you …. he’s learned to fake it and push through the uncomfortable, but he’d really rather just not talk during his haircut. Or dinner. The Boy is classically what you described–he will freeze and become very awkward in moments where he feels on the spot, but other times he a dorky lunatic and a chatterbox that just won’t stop–with people he feels comfortable with.

It’s been an interesting journey sometimes for my husband and me … and with the Boy too. We’re all learning as we go.
