I’ve done both, working full time (and attending college at night) while the big twins were young and now staying home with the little kids. None of it’s easy. Both require sacrifices. We should all just accept that and leave each other alone.

Also, not being allowed to go on field trips? That is not ok!

No kidding, Kathy! This war women wage against one another is exhausting. It’s fueled by a larger force (media, society, politics), but it’s not productive, that’s for sure. Thanks for inviting me here. I am so glad to be a part of this great site you have put together!

Wee are so lucky to work in the schools because we get time with our kids other working mothers don’t. But remember, we also work after hours for parent night and conferences, so a little after hour activity isn’t all that bad, really. 🙂 Thanks for reading and commenting!

You are absolutely right that that’s the problem. There is only one answer, and that’s what’s best for each person’s family. I love my son’s school for everything but that, and in fact, I am going to try to change that field trip policy by contacting the director. I just didn’t want to do it right at the end of the year because I didn’t want to make the teacher feel badly about what she was doing, which was trying in the best way she can to help kids.
