And it feels so god when you finally get over it and let the kids go at their own pace. When we finally realize we aren't as in charge as we'd like to think we are. Great bit, Keesha.

You nailed my feelings!!! Now he is a first grader reading and eager to read even more! Beautiful to see when we are patient and present to their needs what our children can and will do! Love you friend! Xx Judy

Absolutely, Leigh Ann. We do need to relax and not get sucked into parent peer pressure. I hope I can be more relaxed with my daughter, who will be in kindergarten next year!

They’ll get it when they get it, and in most cases, it’s completely in line with their peers and what the schools expect of them. And I admit, I was one who thought my twin girls should be writing their letters in their first year of preschool at age 3.5 and 4. I blame that fully on 1st time parent stress. Now that they’re in 1st grade, I’m a little more relaxed and I’m a LOT more relaxed with their little sister. 🙂

His teacher said that didn't matter, the importants things were that he had learned how books worked and had daily reading modelled for him. The actual reading would come, which it did, in Kindergarten. Moreover he has comprehension issues that may have been worse if he had started younger. He's in college now, so it all worked out ok.
