I remember the moment for my daughter, when she was dancing her heart out and someone in the family said ‘jiggly stomach’ to her. She dances at home, but never in public freely like that, like she used to. Pity too because she’s an amazing dancer (no idea who she got that from, it wasn’t me or her dad).

It was clear by her emotional state that “chunky” might as well have been a 4letter word. The next day, she came to the bus stop after we were all dropped offhand said there would be no more of that! I now understand her maternal need to protect but I think her reaction to THAT word…actually shaped my ideas about body awareness more than the teenager’s words.
