Winter Gardening : Preparing the Garden for Winter Wildlife

~:: Growing Green Fingered Kids  ::~

winter gardeningThis past weekend our family was busy doing some winter gardening. It is late fall and time to close up for the season. Before we started trimming and raking, we took a little time to think about who might be using our garden during the winter months. After all, winter gardening is just as important as any other season. I decided to ask my girls a few questions before we got to work. The first question was, “What wildlife do you think will be in our garden this winter?” Next, I asked, “What do animals need in order to survive the winter?” Finally, “How can our garden help animals this winter?” These three simple questions helped to determine what we would and would not be removing from our garden this fall.
