Family Movie Night with The Boss Baby

This is a sponsored blog post; while the views expressed here were genuinely mine, consideration was paid to me by DreamWorks The Boss Baby.

I used to hate watching movies and you’d never find me sitting down for a kids movie. I would fold laundry, pick up the room we were in, thumb through a magazine, or scroll social media. At the time I believed I could be doing other things and that sitting down for a movie was wasting my energy and that I wasn’t interacting with my kids so why not just do something else while they watched it?

Family movie night changed my perspective.

Now, once a month we have a family movie night, where we collectively pick out the movie, I make Popcorn Trail Mix (called “Popcorn Party” in my house), we put all the devices away, put on our cozy clothes and relax. Did you see that last word? Yes, relax. I missed how important relaxing with your kids is to parenthood. As parents, we need time to decompress and snuggle with our kids without distraction. And family movie night is the perfect way to do that.

Our most recent family movie night was watching The Boss Baby, a movie that’s full of laughter, adventure, and fun.

The adults and kids were both laughing in our house over this movie! It has a great message of sibling and family relationships. Tim and the Boss Baby are reluctant partners but as you’ll see in the movie, start off in a rocky relationship and find an unexpected loving partnership as a family. The reality is that families, especially siblings, go through challenges and it is our job as a family to work together and get through them. I loved that message of the movie. Movies that have a message like that are movies I want to keep on our movie shelf for watching more than once. Not only does the movie make us laugh together, it reminds us that challenges are a normal process for being a family but in the end our love for each other will keep us going to do great things.  The Boss Baby is available now on Blu-ray™, DVD and Digital HD for purchase here and includes a new mini adventure when you buy it. Also, if you loved some of the movie quotes as much as our family did, you can find a talking keychain exclusively at Target that has funny recorded quotes from the movie.

Family Movie Night Popcorn Trail Mix

Every family movie night at our house involves a big bowl of Popcorn Trail Mix. My kids call it “Popcorn Party” because this popcorn really is a party filled with candies, chocolate, and marshmallows. There is a Plane/Pirate scene from the movie that our family loved. It was a sweet moment when you can see the Boss Baby and Tim finding a special relationship (when Boss Baby comforts Tim with his hand on take-off). Sitting in First Class on the plane was their own fun party before Las Vegas and this Popcorn Trail Mix is a fun way to celebrate family movie night when you watch The Boss Baby.

1 (2.7 oz) Bag of Popcorn (Popped)
1 cup Chocolate Chunks
1 cup Mini Marshmallows
1 cup Raisins
1 cup Gummy Candies
1/2 cup Peanuts
In a large bowl combine popped popcorn and remaining ingredients. Toss to combine. Serve in large bowl with mini bowls for individuals.

Serves 4-6

What are your favorite family movie night traditions? We hope you’ll try this yummy Popcorn Trail Mix when you watch The Boss Baby!
