IF YOU TAKE A MOM TO BLOGHER ::::  My Dishwasher’s Possessed

BlogHer '12

After weeks and weeks of list making, childcare arranging, and excitement over getting to meet my partner, Val, in person, the big day is finally approaching. Val and I are going to be at BlogHer’12 in New York City.

Getting two moms ready to leave their families for a few days and all the planning that entails is no easy task. As I have been running around entertaining kids on summer break, working on the magazine and trying to get ready for my big weekend, I kept thinking of a book that all three of my kids have always loved; If You Give A Mouse A Cookie. What follows is my own little fractured version (that is purely fictional and does not resemble my perfectly ordered life at all) of the beloved story.

IT LOOKED BETTER ON PINTEREST ::: STEM Mom

Photos of pinterest boats compared to one done in real life.Darci the STEM mom shares her poorly executed attempts at implementing two Pinterest-inspired activities with her kids. She shares the photos she pinned, then compares this to reality. Trying a new birthday tradition and attempting to design and float a nature boat are the focus of this humorous post. Why do our pinned photos look so enticing, exciting, and educational, yet when we do them, the are only so-so? Humph!

About Darci:  STEMmom.org’s mission is to provide a community where public, private, and homeschooling teachers can connect and share inquiry science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities. Darci’s passion is helping kids of all ages learn about the process of science, rather than the facts.  Because she homeschools her young children, teaches high school, and provides professional development for teachers, articles in the same week may vary from the science behind glow-in-the-dark oobleck (geared to preschoolers, but fun for any age)—to sharing a high-school lab where students must remove the “contaminates” from a pseudo marine oil spill.

PLEASE :::: Extraordinary Ordinary

BlogHer '12
notes to my children:

Don’t forget to feel
and then move on
if things don’t go the way
you thought they should go.
Sometimes what you want isn’t even what you wanted
anyway.

Open doors for girls.
Or better yet,
open doors for anyone and everyone
coming through.

Please.

Caveat Hostess :::: Mom’s New Stage

Ever met a potential mom who seems perfectly lovely in passing, but within five minutes of one-on-one time reveals that she is the C.E.O. of the League of Horrible Mothers? That she is out to lunch without a sandwich/the lovechild of Snooki and The Donald/going to make you feign your own death to get away from her? Wouldn’t it be nice if every playdate with a new mom/kid pair came with a warning such as this?

Why do we as adults stop singing proudly? Click through to discover “5 Places YOU Can Pretend to be Julie Andrews.”
